a note from the artist--
this is a part of a photographic series portraying three interrogation rooms of the stasi prison, Berlin, Germany. in these rooms, higher powers used to decide on political prisoners' present and future lives. the chairs now being empty, light calmly flows into the rooms. this location is now used as a reminder that people have voices. it is an encouragement to use them, by voting or manifesting our thoughts in other ways. although no country pretending to be democratic really is, people still have power. not everyone has the privilege to show their opinions in a public space. so if one was given this blessing at birth, one should use it, remembering every involuntarily silent person.Â
