Watch and Learn: Black Films

Curated by Brittany Ashley

In this time of advocacy and change (and beyond it), we are each called upon to use our abilities and resources to progress the cause. For some, that means attending protests and giving speeches. For others, it means donating to worthy organizations and spreading awareness/information. All of us, however, can do the bare minimum and educate ourselves. From there, we can be more prepared for conversations with those in our day to day lives and educate them as well. It is a daunting task, to say the least, as there are so many stories and so much history that most of us will have to relearn as our standard education has failed to teach us properly the first time. To make it as easy as possible, we’ve compiled a list of films and television shows on major streaming services. Some deal with the themes of police brutality and racial discrimination directly. Others are testaments to black joy, art made by black creators telling black stories that are just as important as the documentaries and dramas.'
