PROJECT STATEMENT:
The series Decomposition, Effect, Repair explores cycles of rupture, transformation, and renewal, reflecting my ongoing interest in material memory, ecological awareness, and the tension between natural and constructed environments. Composed on canvas, the four works—Decomposition, Effect, Repair (1/4), Decomposition, Effect, Repair (2/4), Decomposition, Effect, Repair (3/4), and Sand and Decomposition, Effect, Repair (4/4), Forced Water Decomposition—operate as a visual “rhyme,” alternating in rhythm and approach: one work asserts a gesture, the next responds, creating a dynamic interplay across the series.
Textiles and found materials form the structural and conceptual core of the series. Holes are intentionally punctured and patched with reclaimed fabrics, marking absence while suggesting repair and resilience. In Sand, inserts of handmade paper made from reclaimed cardboard boxes appear within the canvas, foregrounding the history embedded in materials and emphasizing cycles of reuse and regeneration. Each piece negotiates control and spontaneity, structure and erosion, embodying a dialogue between fragility and persistence.
Through layering, mending, and juxtaposition, Decomposition, Effect, Repair articulates the interplay between human intervention and natural processes, exploring how material transformation mirrors ecological, personal, and collective cycles. The series invites viewers to consider the beauty, tension, and memory present in acts of repair and the poetic resonance of imperfection.
Delia-Viviana Mălinaș (b. 2001, Romania) is a painter and multidisciplinary artist
whose practice spans painting, textiles, and analog photography. She holds a degree
in Painting from the Faculty of Arts and Design at the West University of Timișoara
(2024).
Her work explores the tension between natural systems and human-made
environments, with a focus on material transformation, ecological memory, and acts
of repair. She works with reclaimed textiles, handmade paper, and found objects,
often integrating processes of patching and layering. Through these gestures,
Mălinaș transforms overlooked or discarded materials into visual compositions that
speak of fragility, resilience, and the cycles of use and renewal.
Photography on 35mm film forms a parallel thread in her practice, documenting
textures, vegetation, and transitional spaces. These images feed back into her
painting and textile works, creating a continuous archive that bridges observation
and material construction.
She has exhibited in group exhibitions in Romania and internationally, with projects
emphasizing sustainability, material memory, and interdisciplinary dialogue. Her
practice reflects a deep interest in how matter, ecology, and space shape both
individual and collective identity. Website: deliamalinas.art | Instagram: @deliaviviana_
